Multiple intelligences from school

Multiple intelligences from school

The theory of multiple intelligences, raised by the American psychologist Howard Gardner, brings a very different view of intelligence to the traditional concept. It goes from a single uniform perspective and, where intelligence was associated almost exclusively with academic skills linguistic and logical-mathematical nature, the distinction of up to 8 types of different intelligences, covering skills as varied as music, dance or sports activities.

Gardner theorizes that it is possible to distinguish between the following 8 types of intelligence:

linguistic-verbal intelligence. Is the ability to effectively manage the words, manipulating the structure or language syntax, phonetics, semantics and its practical dimensions. A school that have most developed this intelligence love writing stories, reading, playing with rhymes, tongue twisters and do often have an ability to learn languages. Profiles and / or professional skills that best fit with this kind of intelligence are politicians and speakers, writers, essayists, etc.
logical-mathematical intelligence. In particularly gifted individuals to this form of intelligence, the process of problem solving is usually very fast and natural, showing very good ability to identify patterns, calculate, formulate and test hypotheses, using practically the scientific method and inductive reasoning and deductive. Economists, engineers and scientists, among other professional profiles, are characterized by a high degree of development of this intelligence.
spatial intelligence. It refers to the ability to appreciate certain visual and spatial image, represent ideas in a graphical manner and interrelate with a clear objective and practical use colors, lines, shapes, figures and spaces. Highly developed spatial intelligence can well understand plans and sketches and have a great capacity for orientation and excel in the visual arts. For these reasons, photographers, architects, designers, publicists and artists in general they tend to have highly developed.
Musical intelligence. Perceive, distinguish, transform and express the rhythm, timbre and tone of musical instruments is characteristic of children and adults who have optimally developed this intelligence.
body kinesthetic intelligence. The evolution of body movements is of great importance for all animal species and in humans this adaptation also extends to the use of tools. It is a basic intelligence, the development of which is necessary to perform tasks that require strength, speed, accuracy, flexibility, hand-eye coordination and balance, life skills to exercise a large number of professions such as surgeons, actors, sculptors, dancers or athletes.
Naturalist intelligence. It is the ability to distinguish, classify and use environmental elements, objects, animals or plants, including powers of observation, experimentation, reflection and questioning the environment.
Intrapersonal intelligence. It is a concept of different intelligence that is not related to the possession of a certain capacities in the field of science, literature or art, but with the autoinstrospección fields have a successful self-image and ability of self-discipline, understanding and self-esteem.
Interpersonal intelligence. This is a very specific ability, but to know that some people get a lot out and great practical use: to distinguish and perceive the mood of others and respond effectively to these circumstances way.
